Group Therapy
A therapeutic environment where individuals heal through the guidance of a licensed therapist and the insights, challenges, and connections that emerge from working alongside peers.
Group Therapy at The Garage will bring the clinical rigour of licensed mental health treatment together with the relational power of community creating a therapeutic environment where individuals heal not just through the guidance of a therapist, but through the insights, challenges, and connections that emerge from working alongside peers. This is distinct from peer support groups: Group Therapy is clinically facilitated by a licensed therapist and is structured around defined therapeutic goals and evidence-based frameworks.
Group Therapy is one of the most effective and well-researched modalities in behavioral health. When facilitated skillfully, a therapy group becomes a microcosm of the real world a place where individuals can practice vulnerability, receive honest feedback, build trust, and experience the transformative effect of being truly seen and accepted by others. For people in recovery, many of whom have experienced profound social disconnection, this relational dimension is not a side benefit it is central to the healing process.
The Garage's Group Therapy offering will be structured around specific themes and clinical needs, including trauma and recovery, emotional regulation, grief and loss, healthy relationships, and identity in recovery. Groups will be time-limited and goal-oriented, with clear entry and exit criteria. All groups will be facilitated by licensed clinicians who are trained in group dynamics and who understand the unique intersection of mental health and addiction. This service is pending clinician credentialing and is expected to launch in the near future.
Who this service is for
Group Therapy will be appropriate for adults who are ready to engage in a structured, clinically guided therapeutic process with others who share similar challenges. It is particularly well-suited for individuals working through the emotional dimensions of their recovery, those with co-occurring mental health conditions, and individuals who have identified that relationships, communication, or emotional regulation are areas they want to strengthen as part of their overall wellness.
Why group therapy is a powerful modality
Universality of experience: Discovering that others share your struggles is itself therapeutic it breaks the shame and isolation that addiction often creates.
Interpersonal learning: The group setting is a safe environment to practice new ways of relating, communicating, and trusting skills that transfer directly into daily life.
Clinician-guided depth: A skilled therapist creates a container where difficult themes can be explored safely, going deeper than peer support alone can reach.
Cost-effective access: Group Therapy makes high-quality clinical care accessible to more individuals simultaneously, without reducing the quality of the therapeutic experience.
Community as medicine: For people whose addiction was sustained by isolation, the experience of genuine community in a therapy group is itself a form of healing.
